Praia da Luz
Praia da Luz is situated on the southern coast of Portugal, known as the Western Algarve, looking over the Atlantic Ocean. The climate here is similar to North Africa and enjoys over 3000 hours of sunshine each year. Praia da Luz is 7km from the main town of Lagos and just one hour by car from Faro. Praia da Luz has a beautiful sandy beach set against the towering rugged rocks and the white villas and cottages of the town.
Formerly a fishing village Praia da Luz has retained its charm and character whilst adapting to the demands of a modern lifestyle offering a vast amount of water sports and other activities. There are a variety of restaurants and bars to choose from.
The Algarve is renowned for its fine golf courses and within 15 minutes of Praia da Luz you will find Parque de Floresta, Boavista and Palmares. Penina, the world famous championship course designed by Henry Cotton, is just 30 minutes drive away.
Banks
Banks are open from Monday to Friday 0830hrs - 1500hrs. There are 4 banks in Praia da Luz: Credito Agricola, Barclays, Banco Espirito Santo and Banif - all within easy walking distance from the centre of town. Cash machines can be found outside most banks and in most supermarkets. There is one situated in supermarket Batista.
Post Office
The Post Office ( Correio ) in Praia da Luz is located approximately half way along the main road. It is open from 0900hrs - 1230hrs and in the afternoon from 1430hrs - 1800hrs (Monday - Friday)
Pharmacy
The Pharmacy in Praia da Luz is situated next to the small shopping centre near the supermarket Batista. Open Monday – Saturday 0900 - 2000hrs. In Lagos there is always one pharmacy open 24 hours a day. This is covered by a rota and on any pharmacy door will be the name of the pharmacy which is on duty.
Luz Doc
Luz Doc is the nearest Doctors surgery situated in Luz. It is a private clinic with English speaking staff and is situated 50 metres from the church along the Burgau Road. A Doctor is available for emergencies 24 hours each day and the clinic is normally open 7 days per week.
